What's happened to him? We haven't heard from him in a long time. Should we make preparations to attend his funeral?"

No I'm still alive and still kicking, whom I decide to kick is no one's business, just random people I meet on the street, never small animals such as dogs or cats just people who deserve to be kicked. The 1970's that is, I'm not talking about age here. I would've remembered the seventies better if I was older, but since I was born in 1972, I was a little too young to remember much of it. I think it was about having lots of free unprotected sex, and avoiding commitments in relationships at all costs, and Watergate and Nixon and the end of the Vietnam War and the end of the draft. The Bee Gees and disco and Welcome Back Kotter, and the movie Car Wash, definitely.

Afro's and bell bottoms and pet rocks and Have Nice Day! Jimmy Carter and his peanuts. He sent one to us in the mail back in 1975 I believe, and I ate it and it was dry. Saturday Night Fever and John Travolta and Vinnie Barbarino and Happy Days, and for me kindergarten in 1978. I don't remember it all but I do remember the music, and that's what's important to me is the music.

So without further ado, here is the best of the Seventies thus far, according to me. But the songs that bring back alot of memories for me are Jack and Diane, the best line being..."Life goes on, (and on and on and on) long after the thrill of living is gone." How true that is. I never realized this truth when I listened to this song as a little kid. I thought life would be fun forever.

And I remember the time when Jack and Diane was one of my favorite songs, and couldn't wait to hear it any chance I could, and once when I was at a campground with my parents, I went to the recreation room and put a dime in the jukebox to play the song. So many years have gone by since then and I haven't played a jukebox in years, and won't unless the prices go back to 10 cents a song. But it wouldn't be the same anyway.

Other songs I enjoyed, even though they don't hold any real memories, are Hurt so Good, and Ain't Even Done With the Night and Hand to Hold on To. All good songs meant to be listened to over and over again.

john cougarjohn cougar mellencampjohn mellencampUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5757536947602430425.post-81364406995018986892007-07-10T09:06:00.000-07:002007-07-10T09:38:09.791-07:001981I'm not really sure what happened to 1981 but I do remember it very well, even though I was only 8 years old for most of the year.
